Private tuition

Lessons built entirely around your child.

Your tutor plans each session around what your child needs next, and has the flexibility to go back over anything your child has not understood. Lessons take place at home or online, at hours that suit your week, and can be moved when the school calendar requires it.

Our consultant will speak with you first, and our in-house matching algorithm then checks every tutor on our books against the subject, the level, your timings and your budget. Most families have their shortlist to rank within the hour.

Free for families, with no sign-up fee and no matching fee to parents.

What it costs

We take one week. Most agencies take two.

That first week’s fee covers everything we do to find your child the right tutor, and it is the only commission we take. Every week after that goes straight to your tutor.

Example: At $70 an hour, twice a week

Week 1

$140

Week 2

Week 3

A typical agency

Agency

Agency

That is $140 to us, once, and no sign-up or matching fee on top. Most agencies take 50% of the first month, which is $280 here, and a tutor who has given away half their first month has every reason to price it back into the rate they quote you.

Agency figures describe the common Singapore agency model. Terms vary between agencies.

What tutors charge

What tutors charge in Singapore.

These are the going rates by level and by the kind of tutor, and each tutor sets their own rate within these bands. During the consultation we will advise you on which type of tutor to consider depending on your budget and the subject.

Student & part-time
Student and part-time tutors have often sat these papers recently and are familiar with the current syllabus.
Full-time tutor
Full-time tutors teach for a living and have taught the same paper many times over, which enables them to identify weaknesses faster and address them. They are also usually the most flexible on timing.
Current or ex-MOE
Having taught in MOE schools, they know the syllabus and curriculum closely. Years in the classroom mean they understand how marks are awarded and where students lose them. Families tend to move up to this column in the year before a national exam.

Questions

Questions families ask.

Why are the tutors anonymised when you receive the shortlist?

We withhold names until both you and the tutor have agreed to proceed. The policy keeps the process fair to every tutor, such that a parent’s decision rests on a tutor’s background, experience and record.

Am I committed to anything?

Once the agreement is signed, you and your tutor are each committed to a minimum of one week of lessons, since both of you set that time aside in advance. From the second week onwards, you and your tutor may arrange the schedule between yourselves.

Can lessons be rescheduled?

During the first week, either side may reschedule through us, provided at least 48 hours of notice is given. We will, of course, be flexible in exceptional circumstances, such as an illness supported by a medical certificate. From the second week onwards, you and your tutor may reschedule directly.

48 hours or more
The lesson is moved, and nothing is charged for moving it.
Less than 48 hours
The lesson is charged, because your tutor set the time aside.
What if my child has to miss a lesson in the first week?

Unfortunately, since both parties have agreed to the contract and the tutor has set aside time for the sessions, you will be charged for the lesson. If you foresee that your child may need to miss a lesson, please contact us at least 48 hours beforehand to reschedule it.

What if the tutor does not turn up?

We will refund you in full for any lesson in the first week that your tutor misses, unless it was rescheduled with at least 48 hours of notice.

What if the tutor is not right for us?

Please let us know, and we will start a second search at no charge to you. You pay only for the lessons your child has already had.
